What I Help With
Therapy for Intergenerational Patterns and Family Roles
Some of what you carry did not start with you. The roles, fears, and ways of coping in a family often pass quietly from one generation to the next, until someone becomes curious enough to notice.
What I Help With
The Family as a System
Families are the herd of our species. We are hard-wired to be part of them whether we want to be or not. That is why the roles we learn early, the peacemaker, the responsible one, the invisible one, the one who holds it all together, can follow us so far into adult life.
My undergraduate study was in Child and Family Development, and in 2021 I trained in Bowen Family Systems. Both shape how I think about the way anxiety and patterns move through a family over generations.
The Ones Chosen to Heal
I see intergenerational trauma as something many sensitive people were chosen by their ancestors to heal. Often it is the most attuned person in a family who feels the weight of what was never spoken, and who eventually decides to do something different.
That can be lonely work. Therapy offers a place to understand the patterns you inherited with compassion for the people who passed them on, and with freedom to choose what you carry forward.
What the Work Looks Like
We might map family patterns, notice how old roles show up with your partner or your own children, and listen to the parts of you that learned to cope in the ways your family needed. The aim is understanding and choice, not blame.
Therapy is held online for adults located in Georgia, Ohio or Tennessee. A free 15-minute Connection Call is a simple way to begin.
