About Lisa

I attempted to major in Psychology at the University of Georgia and had a very hard time passing Psych 101. So I changed my major to Child and Family Development.

I earned my Master's in 2003 at the University of West Georgia in Humanistic and Transpersonal Psychology. Then life did not pause while I became a therapist.

Between 2003 and 2015, I owned a coffee shop, married, co-owned a yoga studio, and opened a restaurant and bar. I had two children, one hospital birth and one homebirth, and later divorced. I also worked in-home with families involved in the foster care system.

More than ten years after graduating, I took the National Counselor's Exam. I opened my private practice soon after full licensure. That nonlinear path is part of how I understand change: not as a tidy progression, but as something we live our way into.

Before all of that, I worked in a hospital psych department. I saw how insurance dictated how long someone could stay, and I realized fairly quickly that it was not how I wanted to work.

I have always felt stifled by the medical model and the requirement to diagnose someone. As Glennon Doyle wrote in her book Untamed, "Sometimes the only thing wrong with us is the belief something is wrong with us."

I believe every individual has the capacity for expanded awareness and personal truth, even if it sometimes gets buried by conditioning, confusion, or anxiety. Beyond my formal training, my work is informed by personal reflection and practice, meditation, and yoga.
