Out-of-Network Therapy in Georgia, and How Superbills Work

Present Life Counseling does not bill insurance directly. Some people are still able to get part of the cost back through out-of-network benefits. Here is how that usually works.

Questions

What Out-of-Network Means

An in-network therapist has a contract with your insurance company and bills them directly. An out-of-network therapist does not. You pay the therapist yourself, and then, depending on your plan, you may be able to ask your insurer to reimburse part of what you paid.

Whether you get anything back, and how much, depends entirely on your plan. Some plans have generous out-of-network mental health benefits. Others have none.

What a Superbill Is

A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes the information an insurer needs to process a claim, such as dates of service, the type of service, fees paid, and provider details. Insurers generally also require a diagnosis code. You submit the superbill to your insurance company yourself.

I provide superbills for clients who want to pursue out-of-network reimbursement.

Questions to Ask Your Insurer

Before you begin, it can help to call the number on your insurance card and ask: Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health? Do they cover telehealth? What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met? What percentage is reimbursed after the deductible? How do I submit a superbill?
